With its publication of Prized Writing each fall, the University Writing Program holds a ceremony to honor the students from across campus whose works are in the book, and acknowledge the importance �� places on writing, regardless of major.

30 Years of �� Students’ Prized Writing

As an undergraduate at the University of California, Davis, Liz Garone was among the authors whose works went into the university’s first book of Prized Writing (1989-90).

Her personal story, “Not Simply Pure — Olive Oil,” about how her grandparents brought along gallons of it when they immigrated from Italy and how it is her favorite moisturizer, would help launch her writing career.

‘Prized Writing,’ Vol. 29, to Debut Oct. 9

��’ University Writing Program will soon debut its 29th annual edition of Prized Writing, featuring the work of 26 undergraduates from across the disciplines. The book will be officially released at an event scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 9.

The first week of October brings two events showcasing �� writers — undergraduates and faculty members.

• Prized Writing — A celebration of the University Writing Program's 28th annual edition of undergraduate works from any discipline. This year’s book comprises 23 pieces selected from among more than 400 entries from the 2016-17 academic year.
