With sketches and symposia, 海角社区 this month celebrates Nobel Prize-winning discoveries in science and offers a glimpse of what lies ahead in researching the big global challenges of food, agriculture and health.

Three events are planned. They are free and open to the public, or you can watch them live, online.

The sketches are 鈥淪ketches of Science: Photo Sessions with Nobel Laureates.鈥 The laureates drew their Nobel-winning science, then posed with their sketches for photos. You can see them today (Jan. 6) through Jan. 28 at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, in the first and only planned showing of the exhibition in the United States.

An opening ceremony will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 7) in the Mondavi Center鈥檚 Vanderhoef Studio Theatre. Speakers include two Nobel laureates whose photos and sketches are in the exhibition: Bruce Beutler, physiology or medicine 2011, and Brian Kobilka, chemistry 2012.

The program also includes the photographer, Volker Steger; Olov Amelin, director of the Nobel Museum, which produced the exhibition; and Nikolaus Turner, a member of the executive board, , which collaborated with the museum.
